gp tidbits

This is where you’ll find interesting (at least, to me) information about some of my favorite things.

Favorite Author:  G. R. R. Martin.  If you’re a fan of the HBO show, but haven’t read the books, you are missing out on an epic series.  Next favorite would have to be Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy.  I’ve found Dean Koontz to sometimes be hit-or-miss, but I still have a place in my heart for “Watchers,” the first one of his books I ever read. And recently I have enjoyed, and I mean REALLY enjoyed, The Books of Babel quartet by Josiah Bancroft.

Favorite Movies:  Again, there are too many, and it wouldn’t even be fair to compare recent movies against some of the older classics given the advances in special effects.  So I thought it would be fun to sort them by decade.  I’m sure I’m missing some.  There’s no way to do justice to all the good ones.

1970’s: Jaws, The Godfather (I, II), One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, The Deer Hunter

1980’s: Raiders of the Lost Ark, E.T., Die Hard, Aliens, The Shining

1990’s: Jurassic Park, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Shawshank Redemption, The Silence of the Lambs, Dances With Wolves, Life is Beautiful (subtitled – but worth seeing!)

2000’s: Gladiator, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Several of the Marvel superhero movies (notably, Spiderman and Iron Man), Monster’s, Inc.

2010’s: Antman, Captain America (Civil War), and Logan (Marvel really knows how to make good superhero movies!) and you can add The Martian to this list, too.

Favorite Drink:  Guinness, but it has to be draft.

Favorite Food: Too many to really decide.  I like food.  Lots of food.  And all different types of ethnic and regional foods.  But I can eat fried chicken forever and a day.  And dark chocolate.  (Mmmm.  Oh yeah.)

Favorite Music: I like music with an acoustic sound to it (e.g. James Taylor, Dave Matthews, etc.) but I can’t single out one favorite, even if I tried to sort them by decade.

Favorite Sports Team:  New York Giants
